Congratulations to Brandon Greene, Class of 2009, a semi-finalist for the Gates Millennium Scholarship. We wish you well at Vassar College.
Congratulations to Widly Coulanges, Class of 2010, our Georgia Governor's Honor Program recipient in Mathematics. Widly's research focus was on generating a computer-based algorithm to solve Richard Karp's Clique problem. While at Governor's Honors this summer, he also created other computer programs and learned the art of cryptology. He chose to minor in French.
Congratulations to Chelseay Parks, Class of 2010, our National Merit Scholar SemiFinalist. Approximately 1.5 million students from 22,000 high schools around the country compete for this honor. We wish her luck as she competes to be a National Merit Scholar Finalist.
Congratulations to Armin Behroozi. Mr. Behroozi, Class of 2011, who placed 2nd in the American Chemical Society Essay contest. Mr. Behroozi was recognized at the Herty 75 Future Medalist Symposium at Kennesaw State University as on of the four winners in Georgia for the American Chemical Society Herty 75 Essay Contest.
Kenya DeBarros, Class of 2013, has been accepted into Spivey Hall for Orchestra. "I am extremely glad that I have been accpeted into the program. I am looking forward to not only performing, but furthering my talent through the experience. This is my goal and it is exciting to know that I have this opportunity."
Congratulations to our Magnet Students Akousa Agyire, Savanna George, Tarryn Tertulien, Danyel Jones, Orayne Mullings, Gozie Nkemka, Ariel Lanier, Channelle Washington, Dakota Thames, and Ebony Thompson in being awarded the State Farm/MADD Good Decisions Service-Learning Grant. They will be working with our local elementary schools and middle schools to teach them about seat belt safety.
Herty 75 Medalists Symposium
The Academy of Research and Medical Science Junior class attended the American Chemical Society Herty 75 Symposium at Kennesaw State University on September 18, 2009. Students got to meet and hear from the 2009 Herty Medalist, Dr. Craig Hill of Emory University. Students also toured the science and nursing facilities.
We are pleased to annouce the following students have been selected to participate oin Project 2400. Project 2400 is a strategic partnership between Cobb Chamber of Commerce and the Cobb County and Marietta City Schools to enhance our students SAT scores. The participants are: Ehijie Aukhuele, Dennis Azandria, Armin Behroozi, Emma Benson, Lachelle Blakley, Juaquina Carter, Miles Farmer, Rachel Green, Chelsea Hicks, Raven Hiram, Mbare Konte, Joel Lopez, Candace Mabry, Rukhsar Machiwalla, Anaramis Morales, Brianna Moses, Dania Murrell, Neda Norouzi, Uchenna Odihe, Ifedinma Orizu, Paris Rainey, Johnathan Smith, Lance Stallworth, and Jiby Yohannan.
Our Teachers
Dr. Ellen Katzowitz (Medical Science/Biotechnology), Dr. Donald Gutstein (Medical Science/Anatomy), Mr. Alex Alvarez (Research), and Mr. Johnny McCord (Physics) participated in the 10th Annual National Case Study Teaching in Science Conference September 24-26, 2009 in Buffalo, New York. During the two day conference, our teachers attended workshops and collaborated with professors from top universities around the nation including the distinguished Dr. Kipp Herreid.
